After a career in finance I joined the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association in May 2001. Not being a piper or drummer I had no preconceived ideas about the Association and set about sorting out their finances and putting a more business like professional structure in place to take the Association forward.
I have been married to Annette since 1977 and live in West Dunbartonshire. When I get the occasional weekend free I can be found on Cardross golf course trying to maintain my 12 handicap.
I have learned since my appointment to the RSPBA to appreciate the history of the pipe band movement and have the highest regard for the technical ability required to perform. I am also aware of the considerable amount of effort that the organizers put into running a highland games, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be present at Bute Highland Games as a visitor for a change.
It was a great privilege to be invited to be Chieftain in 2016 and it was evident everyone enjoyed a wonderful event.
